Collective Grief
Collective Grief is a series of three paintings expressing life, death and resurrection in unprecedented times. Walking through nature at the beginning of the Covid-19 lock-down provided a space for me to immerse in and forget myself. It was a ‘thin’ space, where the boundary between the visible and invisible world is more open than usual. I was moved by the sounds of silence, attentive to wind's echo and transparent touch, and filled with an urge to paint an encounter that left me inarticulate in solidarity with the world. The gestural application of paint, dripped, scratched, reworked and layered reverberates with the year the world put on a new skin.
