Anam Cara
The Celtic understanding of friendship finds its inspiration in the ‘anam cara.’ Anam is the Gaelic word for soul; cara is the word for friend. The anam cara was a teacher, companion, or spiritual guide, a person to whom one would bare their soul. This friendship was an act of recognition and belonging. Behind the abstract, below words and above thoughts, is the silence within that never leaves. It is the voice that emerges from the wisdom of the body.
